If nothing else, filling a good-sized pool with the stuff would be terribly expensive.

And I wouldn't be enough to sweeten a pool of it very much.

Not to mention it'd stain that turtleneck something dreadful- coffee stains are such a trial to get out of white clothing, even with water magic.

Who says I'd swim with my clothes on?

Generally I wouldn't consider that a good idea, yes, but I don't know why you do half the things you do, I'm not going to make any assumptions.

My goodness, you make me sound so interesting. Flattering.

You're quite welcome. Although I'm not sure how you came by the impression that you aren't interesting, it's certainly not an accurate one.

Well, 'wild', I mean.

Fair enough. Although I suppose one could make a case for that, too.

You just spent the last few minutes of this conversation trying to convince me you're made of marshmallow. I don't think it's as difficult a case to build as you're thinking.

True, I did do that.

And what does this fact tell you about your life and your choices?

Only good things, of course. I'm flawless.

[That gets him to laugh--it's a fairly normal sound, actually. Apparently he does have a voice??]

Exactly like that. A very pretty lump of coal.

Come to think of it, doesn't coal come from old fossilized matter? I suppose some of it could well have been bone. Or...

[She smiles and chuckles softly.]

Perhaps some were mash-mallow reeds.

Both. Bits of 'dinosaur' bone and ancient coffee and marshmallow plants, dug up out of the ground somewhere...

That does sound like me, doesn't it?

It isn't an inaccurate description, no. Although thankfully I don't any of the humans tried mining inside Mt. Ebott.

No, but we did. I didn't say that it was a human who dug me out of the ground.

I'm just relieved they never tried. It would have been a rather awkward way to find the barrier.

[voidster]

[Well. That's a spine-chilling thought. Humans discovering the barrier they can cross... no one who does returns... so, assuming the worst, they send an army...?

That's sobered him up quickly.]

It would have been. We were lucky.

Mm. We could have been more fortunate... but we could have been far, far less so, too.

I wonder if they would have been able to look through the barrier and see us? Is it transparent from the outside?

Yes. They gave us some small mercy, all those years ago.

And I don't know any more than you do. I suppose you could ask 'our' human.

Well, they're their own human, nobody can belong to anybody.

[She mutters the next bit sheepishly under her breath, as if hoping he won't hear it even though he's sitting right there and can't possibly miss it:]

...Except in the sense that they're tiny and adorable and I want to give them so many cookies and a hug.
